POVERTY BAY BEAT AUCKLAND.
AUCKLAND; sth September. The Poverty Bay Rugby representatives defeated Auckland by 17 points to 14 after a fast and exciting game. The match was not brilliant, but the open nature of the play and the wealth of incident made it the brightest representative game played in Auckland this season. J'he visitors thoroughly deserved the win, which was gained in the dying stages of the game after Auckland had led for the greater portion of the match. Boldness on attack, stoutness on defence, and good team work carried the visitors to victory. Their five-eighths, Caul ton and Langlands,.were especially fine, while Auckland's inside backs were weak. Auckland was also weak in tackling, enabling the visitors to break through on frequent occasions. Tries for Auckland were obtained by M Williams (2), Cammick, and Casey. Ifwerson converted one. The scorers for Poverty Bay were Langlands, Berry, Bennett, and Sutcliffe. Morrison converted a try, and Caulton kicked a penalty goal.
