MAORI ART.
The Maori Arts and Grafts Bill was passed by the House of . last night. The Hon. A. T. Ngata (Eastern' Maori) iaaid that the legislation would be very warmly welcomed by the Maori people, but ho hoped that financial provision would be made this year to allow the board to operate. ' The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. B. Holland) said that it was not only the Maori race, which would welcome the Bill. . The scheme would be of immense benefit to the people ot New Zealand. : ' " ' Tho Prime Minister (the Bight Hon. J. (J. Coates) said that, through an oversight, no provision had been made in the Supplementary Estimates, butthe money necessary for the scheme would be taken out of unauthorised expenditure. He hoped the Bill would be passed, for he thought that after twelve months' work upon the subject it represented what was most. desirable in the interests of the Natives and of Maori art. The Bill was put through its final stages and passed.
