SPRAYING OF STONE. FRUITS.

Flower buds are swelling on peaches and nectarines, and some of the earlier plums. As soon as they show pink before the flowers open the trees should be sprayed ■with Bordeaux mixture as a check to leaf curl and bladder plum. When spraying choose a calm day, and be sure that every part of the tree is covered with the spray. Spraying should be done from all sides of the tree. Fruit tree pruning should have been completed last month. Gather up and burn all prunings, as when allowed to lie about they harbour diseases and pests. Newly-planted trees should be looked over and stakes and ties loosened or tightened up, as necessary, and the soil made firm around any which, may have been loosened by winds. While if is necessary to have the trees planted firmly, the surface soil should be kept loose. This applies to established trees as'well as newly-planted ones. Care should be taken when working around the trees not to damage the roots, which are usually close to the surface.
