PORT NICHOLSON BAND.
The Port Nicholson Band needs no introduction to Wellington audiences, having gained an enviable reputation by reason of its recitals of consistently uniform excellence, given during many seasons. For its concert to-morro-w night in the Grand Opera House a rare programme has been prepared. The band has been fortunate in securing the services of some of the most talented artists in the Dominion, including Maoriland's brilliant soprano, Miss Elsie Kell, who will be heard in "The Reason." Mr. Herbert F. Wood, the cultured tenor, will sing the ever-popular "The Carnival," and also, in conjunction with Miss Kell, will be heard in the operatic scena from "II Trovatore," "Le Miserere." Miss Anita Winkel, Dunedin'a gifted elocutionist, who has achieved wonderful success at the competitions now in progress, having gained the coveted title of champion by winning the New Zealand test recital, will recite "The Fool." An item that should attract special interest will be the flute solo by that brilliant artist, Mr. Claude Tucker, who is to play "Polonaise." Mr. Vie. Frazer, an artist new to the band's recitals, will entertain with his songs at the piano, during which he will be heard in the descriptive number, "While New York Sleeps." Mr. Wilfrid C. Kohn will act as accompanist. The band items have been carefully selected, and include the hymn "Peace," overture "Raymond," the grand selection "Rem. of Tsehaikowsky," a Scotch patrol, entitled "Jamie's Patrol," and a brilliant march, "Dreadnought." With such a varied programme all tastes are catered for.
