ENDEMIC DISEASE
REPORT FROM BRITISH MINISTRY OF HEALTH. (Received 3rd September, 2 p.m.) LONDON, 2nd September. The Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health, (Sir George Newman), in a striking declaration on the national\health in his annual report, looking back over-fifty years, says that it will be found that grave epidemic diseases here almost disappeared, and man lives longer because his childhood is healthier. But against this he points out that cancer has gained ground and tuberculosis is very prevalent, while • pneumonic influenza is an undefeated sickness, which resulted in immense loss on the national output of work, amounting last year to 25,000,000 weeks, or practically a year's loss of work by half a million persons. ,' \~ ■'••
