The following telegram has been dispatched by the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce:—' 'Intense dissatisfaction and surprise at your sending the Rimutaka to Timaru to discharge before 'Dunedin, owing to the loss of the Port Kembla. Importers aro short of many .lines. Twelve months ago the overseas companies agreed to three-weekly service between London direct and the South Island ports, Dunedin and Lyttelton to be the first ports alternately, By your action the agreement has been broken." ... Similar protests have been made by the. Importers and Shippers' Association, the Expansion League, and the Manufacturers' Association.
