WORLD'S LONGEST CABLE
TO BE COMPLETED. IN NOVEMBER. (By Telegraph.) .:.: (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. There is now every probability that , the duplicate cable service between Suva and Bamfield, British Columbia^ will be ready for operation about the . middle of November. The Auckland .. „ office of the Pacific Cable Board has re- . .ceived advice that the Dominia, wbich is.to lay the Bamfield-Fanning Island section, is expected to leave London •■'■• next Tuesday, and will "_•. followed on . ...Friday by the Faraday, w'...h will put .'. down the Fanning Island-Suva section. The, laying of the cable, which will be the longest section in the world, 3458 . nautical miles, is expected to take until - 3rd' November, and the final splice is scheduled to be completed two days : later. When the cable is down and spliced it will be possible to use the line immediately, but it is anticipated that ' '"a few days will be required . before ' everything settles down properly. ■'■ '•- The contracts for the cable were let : in April, 1925, and it is to cost £2,379----000. Tho condition is that all the com- '" ponents shall' be-of British origin, except certain loading material, which, in cables, cannot bo guaranteed British.
