ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY
__4: • The Royal Agricultural Society has devised an endowment scheme to secure its finances for further work. The objectives aimed at in this scheme are:— (1) To raise £ 25,000 among supporters of the Royal ' Show movement and among stud breeders of the Dominion, and (2) to collect a pound for pound Bubsidy from tho Government on all moneys collectod. Already the secretary has received a donation of £1000 from Mr. W. Perry, the president of the society, and a donation of £1000 has teen promised by the well-known breeder, Mr. J. A. Johnstone, of Bushy Park, Otago. The Government recently notified the society that, while supporting Jhe idea of creating an endowment fund, it would bo unable at present to provide 3 pound for pound subsidy. However, in recognition of the value to •the Dominion of holding a Royal Show, the Government has agreed to mako a jgrant of £1000, instead of tho customary £500, this year. All the cash obtained for the endowment fund is to be 'invested in Government securities, and it is hoped that the first £10,000 will be quickly secured throughout the Dominion.
