CHBISTCHURCH, 31sfc August.
In connection with the erection of the concert hall, the Concert Hall Committae reported at last night's meeting of the City Council that the architect had informed the eommitteo that, as a result of the strike among the miners iv Britain and the consequent limited output from the steel works, tho contractor for the erection of the hall is uuable to obtain the delivery of the main girder within eight months.
Inquiries had been made and the coutractor stated that it was possible to place an order in America and obtain delivery in about three months, but it was estimated that this would entail an additional cost of about £214. Unless the council was prepared to meat this expenso the contractor stated that it would be necessary to suspend tho building operations until the girder could be procured from Britain. As the committee desired to have the erection of the hall completed as early as possible it recommended that authority bo given to place the order in America, provided the additional cost did not exceed £214.
The report was adopted, and the necessary authority was given.
