WILL IT BE DISCUSSED?

INTERESTING POSSIBILITIES,

Nothing definite has yet been decided as to whether the second reading debate on the Licensing Bill will be taken in the House of Eepresentatives to-morrow, or whether discussion of the measure will be allowed to go by default altogether.

The subject is being- actively discussed in political circles, and it seems fairly certain that tho Bill will never get into Committee, as so many amendments have boon promised. It is said that one reason, why the Bill will not be committed is thatithero is a possibility of the State Control issue being eliminated; but that if the Bill is discussed at all it may be "stonewalled" by those who are not favourably disposed to the Prohibition point of view in licensing matters. From this standpoint it would appear that the Licensing Bill has but few friends. As a matter of fact, members of all sides of the House are being inundated with avalanches of telegraphic protests against the Bill, and in. some quarters it is thought that the Government would be quite justified in not asking the House to discuss it all, as it seems to be so unpopular, and has so little chance of being passed in its present form. A statement on how it is proposed to deal with tho Bill may be made by the Prime Minister.
