PROHIBITION LEAGUE

OBJECTIONS FBOM PETONE.

At a meeting of the Petone Prohibition League held last evening in the Presbyterian Hall, when the Bey. J. Lochoro presided, the following resolutions were carried:—

"That the Petone Prohibition League hereby expresses its astonishment and indignation at the proposal of the Licensing Amendment Bill, which is framed almost entirely in favour of the licensing trade. (1) We particularly protest against the proposal to juggle with the triennial licensing poll, which may be indecisive at present, but registers public opinion in such a way as to exercise influence over the license trade. (2) We are convinced that the way to get a more decisive expression of the will of the people is to eliminate the unfair State Control issue, and we urge the Prime Minister to seize the present opportunity to remove this useless and confusing issue from the ballot paper, or else let it stand alone and not be counted with the Continuance vote.
