IRRIGATION FOR HAWKES BAY.
The suggestion was made to the Government by Sir George Hunter (Waip/iwa) in the House of Eepresentatives last night that a survey should be made o?. a scheme for irrigation in Hawkes Bay. Hawkes Bay, said Sir George, was suffering from a prolonged drought which had extended over twelve months and it was desirable that some better .provision should be made for irrigation in certain parts. A sum should be placed on tho Supplementary Estimates to provide for a survey as to the possibility of supplying certain parts of Hawkes Bay with a water scheme. If they were to increase the productivity of the country they must have something in the way of irrigation. The Hon. W. Downio Stewart (Minister of Finance) said he would consult the Minister of Pablio Works on the matter to see whether anything could be done.
