An excellent beginning was made yesterday with the effort to raise sufficient funds to purchase No. 7 Bell (£538), to be dedicated to the men of ' the British Mercantile Marine, who lost their lives in the Great War. A number of ladies and'"gentlomen attended, and Mr. H. D. Bennett, jhairman of the Wellington War Memorial Carillon Society, presided. A letter was read from the Direct U.K. Liners' Committee (representing the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, and Fed- , era} Steam Navigation Company, the New Zealand Shipping Company, and the Shaw Savill and Albion Company, Limited), enclosing a cheque for £100 as a joint contribution towards No. 7 Bell. A vote of .thanks was passed to the companies concerned for their donation, and arrangements were made for proceeding with the campaign.
