He played very slow cricket, many times refusing to take risks'by running singles. New South Wales in the second innings has five wickets down for 254 (Collins 81, Kippax not out 55, Hendry not out 28, Macartney 35, Andrews 44). Tlie commencement of the innings was sensational, Bardsley being bowled by the first ball of the innings. Macartney retrieved the situation. He played his best innings the season, timing perfectly, and Collins and Andrews, by playin-" very carefully, with occasional brilliant splashes, wiped out the first innings deficit. , -**
