RECOGNITION OF RUSSIA

COURAGEOUS ACT.^AYS BORAH.

WASHINGTON, 25th January/ The resumption by Britain of full diplomatic relations with Russia, in the opinion of President Calvin Coolid'ge, Will have less bearing upon the attitude of the United States towards Russia than will the investigation of Soviet.recognition now being conducted by a subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee headed by Senator Borah.

It is indicated that President Coolidge will not close his eyes to anything that is developed by the committee. In a statement, Senator Borah said : "It may be presumed that for all practical purposes we may regard the recognition of Russia by the English Government as an accomplished fact. 'It is a statesmanlike, courageous thing to do, and marks a distinct break with the bitterness, vjiatred, and intolerance of wartimes. It points to a new moral and spiritual regime."
