MASTERTON, This Day. The final of the combined doubles was played this morning, under fine -weather -conditions, with the courts considerably drier, though still requiring ■" non-skid " bootwear. - Th e finalists were Andrews and Miss M'Laren and Walker and Miss Macfarlane. The opening play produced nothing brilliant. Walker was smashing well, and led 3-2 both men having dropped their first services. Andrews took the next four games and first set, mostly on his opponents' . mistakes. Walker and Miss Macfarlane made.a break in the second set, and took three games in a row Miss Macfarlane and Andrews - both dropped their services, and one or two fine rallies eventuated in Walker's service, Miss Macfarlane volleying and smashing brightly. . Andrews'a placements from a net position won the next game. Conederably brighter tennis followed, Andrews and Miss M'Laren recovering from 1-5' to 5-all. Andrews had changed from- a steel to a gut racc[uet, and was playing a considerably unproved game. Miss M'Laren's servics saw brilliant rallies, all the player, participating. Miss M'Laren moved-from love-40 to vantage in', Walker musing a vitahpomt in poaching. Walker and Muss Macfarlane won to lead 6-5 The next game was very hard fought, with splendid all-round play, a particular feature being the cutting i n at the net. The game finally went to Andrews and Miss MLaVen. Andrews took the service to love, and Walker dropped hia service, to give the championship to Andrews Miss M'Laren. Miss Macfarlane played an outstanding game
