CREATION OF PEERS
OLIVIER AND THOMSON NAMED.
LONDON, 23rd January. The "Daily Telegraph" says that there are some members who are averse to the proposal to. create new peers, but.the general feeling is that this is inevitable in the present circumstances. A request was made that in the remaining appointments the trade union side of the movement should be fully 'recognised., but Mr. Macdonald gave no pledge to that effect. The suggestion was nfade that the salaries of the members o£ the Cabinet should be reduced, but this met with no encouragement. Emphasis was laid on the fact that the Ministry must reach a decision on public policy. The party must not expect to be consulted in advance.' »
Mr. Arthur Henderson, Sir . Sydney Olivier, and Brigadier-General Thomson are all without seats, but it is understood that Sir Sydney Olivier, and certainly Brigadier-General Thomson, will receive peerages.
