AVAILABLE ABILITY

"A BUSINESS GOVERNMENT"

BETTER THAN ITS PREDECESSOR.

'■ - LONDON, 23rd January. The new Cabinet has been well received. Indeed, some surprise has been manifested at the amount of ability available. ■

The "Daily Herald >: lobby correspondent says that the reason for the large Cabinet is that a great deal of work will be done by the committees of Ministers, which will thresh out questions referred to them, and report their conclusions to thfffull Cabinet, whose function will be to supervise and make the final decisions. Thus the country will have the Government organised oil, business lines. \

The paper editorially claims that the new Ministers will be more correctly informed on unemployment, housing, and foreign policy than those whom they replace.

The "Daily Express" says that the names give promisp of sound government. There is unquestionable ability, as well as new blood.

The "Daily Chronicle" says that the Cabinet forms an interesting list. It is scarcely a list of the Labour rank and file expected, but it is not necessai--ily worse for that.

- Mr. Macdonald had faced the necessity of taking administrative capacity and experience where he could find it, and he had succeeded in finding a good deal.

The "Morning-Post" says that assuming that a Socialist Ministry was inevitable there is not much to take exception to in this one. It might easily have been worse, but possibly tfhe relief it now britms will lie mndifie'rl when the ■lsimes of the Under-Secrclaries are known.

!t is notire.iiiio that, only nine of tinnow Ministers have «v«r l, P(m . mi ,, u , M j ixosknts.
