ASHBURTON, This Day ' It is reported.that the famous Redfern Band, of Sydney, which had entered for the New Zealand championship band contests at Christchurch- and Palmerston North, will not now participate, havin" resolved to concentrate'on its prepara° tions for its trip to England to compele at the Empire Exhibition. The cancellation of the entry has not yet been officially announced, by the New Zealand authorities: The absence of the Redfern Band will be widely regretted, as it will rob the competitions of one of, their most picturesque features.
