At 6.30 p.m. to-morrow, when the procession starts off from Post Office Square, Welcome Week Summer Carniv»l will be considered officially opened. The carnival will be characterised by the variety and originality, of entertainments the fruits of at couple of mofths' hard-thinking and labour of an energetic committee. Newtown Park will havo a programme full of new features in the open-air every evening—treaclebun cace, apple-bobbing contests, ladies v. man football match, pictures and jazzing in the open, etc., and many events that, though not new, -will be outstanding on account of their class. One or more bands will be in attendance every evening. The procession itself is going to be unusually good. With its nine bancta, numerous trades and arts and crafts displays, funny sketches, fire brigade display, fine show from the Harbour Board, illuminated tramcar, and the wonderful ".Taniwha," the monster "secured at great cost by the committee for this procession,," it promises to be full of interest. Up'to the present over 70 entries have been received for the procession. People desirous of seeing the procession in comfort are strongly advised to go to Newtown Park. The Taniwha, together with the winning exhibits, will be paraded round a eecond time for inspection. There are about 70 show window'(display entries, embracing all classes. These will be judged on Wednesday, 23rd, giving a very fine day. The V.M.C.A. Welcome Week model display is something really good and sure to be well patronised The Kewpie Fairyland, exhibition in R. Martin's shop, Manners Street will be a great attraction, to'-the young especially. Sunday will be a big day on the Lyall Bay.beach, when the Life Saying Clubs give a display and the Wellington Tramways Band will provide music. >
