Garzon, who was successful' in two events on the opening day o{ the Wairoa Meeting, is by Heather Mixture, from Gazeen, by Gazeley—Pauleen, a full-sis-ter to the well-known performer Gazique. Kilreid (Kilbi-oriey—Amber and White) won the Imperial Handicap at the West I Australian Turf Club's Summer fleeting. He cost his present owner, Mr. J. J. O'Hara, 505 guineas, and has proved a bargain. T. Clark, the Hawkes Bay trainer, with Bagdad and Diamond King, has arrived at Trentham. Crisis (Polydamon—Cricium) who was among, the winners at Porangahau on Boxing Day, pulled off two events on the opening clay at Wairoa. She is a half-sister to Cleft, and is owned by Mr. E. Gibbs, of Gisborue, who used to race Hyrax. H. Gray rode in some hurdle races in the Old Country, and if he is eligible he will have the mount on Carawock in the High Weight Handicap at Trentham. The three-year-old Lilypond won four races and 3270 soys in stakes at the West Australian Turf Club's Summer Meeting. Lilypond .cost 130gns at' the Sydney sales. Tino Maunga, who scored her first win at Wairoa, is by Mountain Knight—Tino Atua,, and is a full-sister to Mariti. The late jVIr. J. W. Collins, who lost his life in the motor launch fatality, at Island Bay on Tuesday, was well and popularly known to members of the racing fraternity as "Major" Collins. Owing to the continued illness of Mr. "Vernon Stratton, Mr. E. P. Cox has been appointed 'acting-secretary o£ the forthcoming meeting of the Egmont Racing Club. Hastings owner-trainer M. Thomas, who has riot done much good lately with CiVilform and Haurangi, ran first and second at Wairoa on Thursday with Merry jimp (Meriy Moment—Patup'aearehc). • According to the Melbourne correspondent of the Sydney "Referee," Messrs. George Tye and J. R. Cortecu have formed a racing partnership, and will race as Tye and Corteen. They will take over the Allandale stud farm of 91 acres. The partnership will race the following horses belonging to Mr. .Tye:— The Monk; Darjeling, Gadfly, Pale Light, Sand Lily, Grotesque, Jollity, Sultry, Iceland, Bonaparte, Recluse, Mirthful Queen, Irish Rythm, Nobility, Prevaricator, and Lion Isle; and Mr. Corteeu's horses Eudasia^ Flaviol, Euphrates, King's Trunipeter, Purser, Automatic, and Witness Box. Mr. Corteen will continue.to race Heroic in his own name. Dunedin trainer F. Shaw arrived from the South this rooming with Palamon, Kerb, Mantua, and Loughrea.
