NOTES FKOM TRETSTHAM.

It was an "off" morning at Trentham to-day. Most of the horses galloped the previous day were restricted to easy pace work. ' The'new. arrivals included F. ;Davis, who came by rail; from Auckland on Thursday. Highland, Queen March, and ■Nigger Minstrel were given light tasks on the grass. All three bear a solid appearance, ; and the brother to Desert Gold struck the writer as likely to be more than useful at the back end of the season. Another Aucklander to put in an appearance was White Comet, a plain Bay gelding, who was exercised on the tan. He has 'some performances to his credit, and is in theSApprentices Plate with the lightest. weight. White Comet is trained by his owner, 'Mr. G. Seifert, and will be ridden by his son, who will be making his first appearance in public. ■'•■;■ :. > ...... The black filly Merit was lame when she walked to the centre of the course .this morning, but the ailment appeared to go away .after exercise. ?"'■ Solfanello may riot be seen out at the meeting. He knocked himself ' behind and was poisoned by the tan. He did long trotting work this morning, and is nearly all right again. ' The first of the Riccarton contingent put in an appearance this morning, when H. Cutts arrived with Wild Hind, Winning Hit, and Eagtime. T. H. Gillett with Dame Straitlace, PrincS Ferouz, Sprinkler, and Integrity, G. Murray AynsJey with Palestrina, and W. | G. Hobbs with Gay Juliet and Gay Queen. J; B. Pearson with Martis, Lucinette, and Clareina, and A. Worm- { aid with Giantkiller. Zaragoza and Economist are expected to-morrow. The balance of the Riccarton contingent will arrive on Sunday, when J. Lindsay with Enace, H. Ellis with Te Anau Lad, and R. Ellis with Firiora are ; expected to put in an appearance. ' T. F. Quinlivan, who has v been qnartered at Woodville with Scion and Royal Divorce since they raced at Ellerslie, returned home to-day. The Trentham contingent for Foxton, consisting of Bonnie Friend, Heathcote, Wheel, Stream, and Jackeroo, leave tomorrow. L. G. Butler and D. Butler will go up and do the ridingJ The last-named will also be on Gluemont, Hallowroz, and Miss Rene. ' i Alf. Quinlivan has had charge at Trentham during his father's absence. Tigeriand and En Route have recently joined the team; also a filly by Absurd —Mascot (a full sister to Fool's Paradise), who has just been! broken in.
