CARGO SALVAGE IN PROGRESS.

GISBORNE, This Day. The salvage of cargo from the Port Elliot is proceeding successfully. Tbe wind is now off snore. The steamer Koutunui took off several motor-cars and a large quantity of miscellaneous cargo yesterday afternoon. . The lighters are able to go alongside only, at high water. A good deal of the cargo is being transferred into surf boats.

It was Btated.at the head office of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line today that operations in connection with the salvaging of the cargo of the Port Elliot are proceeding to-day. No particulars as to how much pf the cargo has already been salvaged, or as to whether it has been severely damaged by water are yet obtainable. The lighters attending the Port EUiot will tranship ""the cargo at Napier, from where it will.be distributed to various destinations. -It is possible that Wellington consignments will commence to arrive next week.
