The monthly meeting of the Wellington School Committees' Association was held last evening, Mr. A. J.. White presiding. •
Dissatisfaction was expressed at replies given by the Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Education, to questions asked in the House by.Mr. 11. M'Keen-, M.P., concerning school matters. The questions which mostly concerned tho association were the increase of grants to school committees, and the granting of free railway passages .to Ngahaiirangn children who bad to attend tho Kaiwarra school, which is situated a little under two miles from Ngahauranga. Some dissatisfaction was also expressed as to the state and number of conveniences at several of the schools, particularly at Brooklyn and Newtown. ■ It was decided to arrange a deputation to approach the Minister of Education in connection with the matters.
tl was also decided to forward a letter to the Education Board asking for information regarding the payment cf subsidies to school committees.
Mr. W. H. Sadd (Lyall Bay) moved, and Mr. B. C. Cull seconded, "That the Wellington School Committees' Association strongly urge the absolute necessity, of the amendment of, the Education Act this session to ensure' that teachers will not require to transfer, from one school to another in order to secure promotion. It is the opinion of the association that the Hylton scheme, or one of a similar nature, would be most effective in bringing about the necessary improvement." This was carried unanimously. .
