■ . LONDON, 6th July. One of the biggest picture sales ever held in England took place at Christie's to-day, when Sir J. B. Robinson's collections of old masters was sold by auction. The room was packed with' art society folk. The sensation of the afternoon was tha sale of Franz Hal's "Portrait of a Gentleman", for £19.950, compared with only £1000 in 1885. Rom-' brandt's "Portrait of an Old Man" was fiold for 11,500 rruineas; four panels by Boucher for 18,C0O guineas; Gainsborough's "Mrs. Drummond" for £10,500; Sir T. Lawrence's "Portrait of a Lady," £8925; and Reynold's "Portrait of Mrs. Matthew," £8400. The dr^-'s total was £205,000—a record for Christie's. The pictures went to private collection*, mostly in Britain.
