SOME STRENUOUS PULLS,
Some excellent pulls in the tug-of-war competition were witnessed at" the.. Town Hall last evening. Twelve teaniE entered, and their strenuous efforts kept the audience in a stata of continuous excitement..' Mr. T. W. Leslie acted as judge, Mr. J. J. Manning as timekeeper, and Messrs. T. T. Boon and R. Reid as the clerks of 'scales. . . LIGHT. First round. —Hansford and 311116 teat Fire Brigade; Milk Department beat Polk'.e; , Bray's team beat Harbour Board. Second round.—Bray's ' team beat Brice's team; Hansford and Mills beat Milk Department. : In the final Bray's team, after a desperate and an exacting pull, beat Honsford and /Mills's team by an 'mdi and a quarter. HEAVY. Bray's team was scratched in the first round of the heavy division-,; and the victory thus wont to the Police. Th» Fire ..Brigade lost to Brice's team by eighj, inches, and in the final Brice's team defeated the Police. /' The winning team was a strongly-built and well-trained combination, but" much of its success was due to the administration of the captain, Mr. W. S. Brice. who Tvas: heartily congratulated at the conclusion'of:> the,-tournament.
