BILLIARDS TOURNEY
A start was made last evening with the inter-club provincial amateur billiards championship, the first two games of the competition being played at the showrooms of Messrs. Billiards, Ltd. Both games were witnessed by a good number of enthusiasts, but tho play was not of a very high standard for a championship tourney. Bromley (Public Service), who met Wrigley (Masterton R.S.A.), played fairly well, and appeared to be more comfortable than the others. He experienced little difficulty in accounting for his opponent, who could not strike his correct form. He was always in front, and ran to 300' when Wrigley was 161. The second game was far more even, although the billiards was of fairly poor quality, Teague (Working Men's Club) being right off his game. Berry (Wellington R.S.A.) took the lead early, and, securing good position, compiled a break of 28. AfterTeague had made ,a 21, Berry registered' a 20. There were no other breaks 6f over 20 during the remainder of the game. Eventually Berry reached 298, and his opponent drew level,, but loft the white over' the middle pocket.- Berry potted and won. Mr. W> Abotbmey was the marker and referee. The tourney will be continued this evening.
