CPI'BLISIIED IN THE TIMIIS.)
BERLIN-, 7th July
A. metal-workers' strike has begun in. practically all the big- factories. About 90,000 men are out, and more are following. The vote favoured a strike by twelve to one, but 100,000 abstained from voting: Negotiations for the principle o{ regulating wages- according to the purchasing power have definitely broken down. The fight on the wag© principle lias extended to municipal politics at Berlin, where the Communist opposition refused to pass the budget raising the city rates in proportion to the depreciation of the mark . unless wages were similarly raised. Consequently the "budget -was thrown out. Increased rates will ,be levied under an injunction from the. Prussian Government.
