PARAMOUNT AND ARTCRAFT.
Included on the programme at the Paramount and Artcraft Theatres to-day is a film of last week's disastrous railway smash on the Main Trunk at Ongarue. Visitors to either theatre will be able to picture the actual accident which vtas accompanied by such heavy loss of j-life, and will realise some of the difficulties that the railway authorities have to overcome in running trains through volcanic country. The leading film, apart from that of the railway accident is "Jazzmania," in which Mac Murray plays the leading role. Beautiful ' gowns, gay' drawing-rooms, beautiful dancing by the star, with a gorgeous background of admirers and motor-cars are features of the production. The film's Queen of Syncopation syncopates her path through "Jazzmania'" First Miss Murray is seen,as a queen of a Balkan Kingdom, and the role suits her. A. revolution is pending, and the queen flies to the society of America. Jazz captures her, and lovers of the dance, and society, have food here to revel in. The gorgeous scenes that spell of. New lork gaiety are portrayed lavishly. Then she is persuaded to return to her country to endeavour to succour the women and children who "are being maltreated. She casts off America, but not the jazz. The novelty and fascination are revealed to her people by the queen, and jazz becomes infectious. They forget their troubles in their desire to dance. The military air and the quaint costumes of the little Balkan State afford a.- pleasing variety to a Picture that should hold some interest for everybody. "Jazzmania" is preceded by a magnificent dance prologue FUmhouse directors are making prologues a vogue, and this one is an entertainment in itself.
