WHITEHALL CENOTAPH
TO BE MADE PERMANENT.

LONDON, 12th August. A movement is afoot to erect replicas of the Whitehall Cenotaph in various towns in the United, Kingdom. It is also intended to) make tho cenotaph tho type for a memorial throughout the Empire. Mr. Lutyens states that he will gladly_ make the design available to Australasian cities. He roughly estimates the cost of erection at between £15,000 and £20,000. Australian, and New Zealand soldiers are among the daily throng paying homage at the Whitehall Cenotaph, which has touched the public imagination. The base of the cenotaph is. smothered in wreaths. The Government has decided, in obedience to public demand to ereot the cenotaph in permanent form at Whitehall.
