FURTHER ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The adjourned meeting of creditors in the estate of of Alfred __can, pastrycook, of Wellington, was held in the offices of the. Official Assignee (Mr. C. Tafislay) to-day, there being an attendance of ten creditors., , ■'''.'
The bankrupt produced a further statement, which was much the same as those previously made, and this.did not meet with the approval of those present, A sum of £600.paid to Thomas and Co. caused a creditor to ask of the bank-' rupt : "Did you, make, any preference payments to Thomas and, Co. V'
"Yes," was the answer, "that amount was paid off gradually.','
The creditor : Tho terms of the transfer of the. lease might be of interest, Official Assignee : Yes; but they are very much mixed.up. .
In view of the; apparent neglect to keep a record of the transactions, and the continued unsatisfactory state 'of affairs after two previous meetings, it was •'suggested that the bankrupt should be placed under public examination. , Bankrupt: I hope you will not do that, gentlemen. Official Assignee : , You have had plenty of chances to make statements regarding your position. A creditor : You might go into business again, and meet with the same result.- '. Bankrupt : I have had one experience of a business, and that is quite enough for me. It will never occur again. A creditor : If such action is taken, _.nd you are all clear, you have, nothing to fear. But if £400 has' disappeared in what we know is a paying business, it is too good. » A motion was carried that tho Official ) Assignee be instructed that, in view of the unsatisfactory state of-affaire,'the bankrupt, be placed under public examination.
