ANNUAL MEETING,

DUNEDIN, 4th June. At the annual meeting'-'of the South Island Dairy Association the Chairman, Mr'. Middleton, said the operations of the association had led to a satisfactory deal regarding the cheese output. The -butter representatives thought they were not getting quite a fair deal compared with the cheese people. They thought they hijd a grievance in the insistence. of the Imperial Government grouping the sale pf butter and cheese. At? effort was still being made to improve the butter position.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ' The following directors were elected: Messrs. T. Buckingham (Drummpnd), Arnott (Wyiidham), and Middleton (WaimaJiaka). -; The question of forming a- mutual insurance association was considered, and a committee- was set up to report to the executive. The meeting decided thatthe executive should take steps to provide the secretary with assistance, leaving him. free to carry into effect the policy of the association. ■.
The meeting decided to recommend dairy factories to promote the formation of herd-testing associations; also, that A. and P. Associations in the South Island be strongly urged to hold bull fairs in a. suitable month each year, and that SO per cent, of the Government stud bulls be distributed.for sale at these fairs.
The following motion was carried: " That the outlook in the hear future for shipping freights on all farm produce is a serious menace to the prosperity of New Zealand, and it is imperative that all dairy and meat export companies combine fpr their common defence and support a- fair rate of freight, and that tlie executive move in this direction at once."
A compiittee was set up to report to a special meeting on the question of co-ope?-ative action in London.
