BOXING TOURNAMENT

FINALS AT TRENTHAM.

On Wednesday evening, at Trentham camp, the semi-finals and finals of a boxing tournament oi nine weights were contested in the Church of England Institute. An account of the preliminary bouts has appeared in an earlier issue of The Post. Some excellent sport was witnessed, clean, hard fighting being the order of tho evenine.. The competitions were referecd by Captain Crawford of the N.Z.M.C., the assisting judges being Major Talbot, and Captain Luckh.tni. Captain Brocks, M.C., was the organiser. The competitions were witnessed by the Camp Commandant, Major ~D. J. SweDtzer, and Lieutenant-Colonel Blair, D.S.O. At the conclusion of the evening's sport the medals for the boxing, and a3so prizes for an athletic Sports meeting, which x„ok place on Wednesday afternoon, weiu prescind by Major Sweetzer. A good selection of prizes had been secured, thanks to the generosity of some members of the camp staff, .and, I aided by a grant from funds, a substantial sum was available for the purpose. Feather Weight, o.7—Winner : Sergeant Pees, Nelson College, Musk.; run-ner-up : Corporal Neville, 26th Wellington, P.T. •, ' Light Weight, 10.0—Winner : O.S.M. Phillips, King's College, Auckland, P.T. ; runner-up : Lance-Covporal Buckland, King's College, Auckland, P.T. Welter Weight, 10.7—Winner : Sergeant Carpenter, Auckland Grammar School, Musk.: runner-up : Sergeant Nutt, 4th Waikato, Musk. Middle 'Weight.. 11.7—Winner : Ser- j geant Hannah, 9th Hawkes Bay, P.T.; runner-up : Sergeant Faber, 26th Wellington, P.T. .
