ATHLETIC DEFEAT PETONE '

Only one senior match was played on Saturday, Athletic meeting P-stono A at Lyall Bay. Tho game was fast and open, good combined work by the Athletic backs enabling that team to securo the verdict. Petone, commencing strongly, were awarded a penalty in a. handy position, ! and Whitley opened the score by a good goal. It was net long, however, before Bradley evened matters by a penalty kick. A succession of passing bouts had no result until a fine effort was made by Bradley, who secured in his own twentyfive, and, kicking high and following up, carried ths tell across. Weaver converted. At this Petone altered matters, a clever interception by Whitley enabling Porter to score. The kick .failed. 7-5. I Until half-time play continued fast, but the scores were unaltered. Athletic attacked from tlie out-set of the eecoiid half, but Petone's defonce was sound, until Homer managed to break through, Weaver adding the extra points. i"2-5. Another passing bout ended in Bradley'getting over, Weaver's kick ' again beinc; successful, 17-5. Petone then assumed tho offensive, and from a mark Whitley kicked a good goal. 17-7.'
