FOR KINDERGARTEN WORK
A STREET APPEAL,
A well-organised effort .for the benefit of the Fres Kindergarten Schools was mada yesterday, when moat of the women's, societies were represented. on the various stalls which were so excellently stocked. A visit to the stalls late in the day proved that practically everything was sold, ' and, the brave womenjv.'ho had cheerfully stood all day. out in the cold dampness of the streets were quite cheerfully packing up the small remnants, and declaring that they had had a very good day, as people appeared interested, and had bought readily. Tilers were some guessing competitions with good prizes—a lamb was one— at several stalls, but. mainly at the W.N.R. stall at. Kirkcaldie's, where Mrs. Gibbons was in charge, assisted by Mrs. Hall-Thompson and Mrs. Leicester. At Kelburn-avenue Lady Gibbes and Mrs. J. D. Gray were in charge of a good flower stall, while books, baskets, and other goods were sold by Miss D. Greenwood, and Kelbum assistants. Mrs. Adams (organiser) was at Stewart Dawson's comer, and with her were Mest dames Sievwrigkt, "W. D. Stewart, Gorrigan, Webb, Harcourt Turner, and Misses Barraud, Edwin, and Curran. At the G.P.O. the Wellington South, and Berhampore Kindergartens held the stall, while Miss Adams was in charge of the books. Bouleott-street comer was staffed by the Brooklyn and Taranaki-street Kindergartens,, and this stall was particularly- well stocked with pot-plants, home produce, and flowers. The Courte-nay-place stall given by the ladies of the Cambridge-terrace Congregational Church, and at St. John's Schoolroom was a. groat collection of boots and shoes,' with Miss Turton in the management. As (here were more boots., etc., than could, be disposed of, another sale will bo held later on at Taranaki-street. The collectors about town were in charge of Misses Helyer and Hall, and it is be-, lieved that, the result of the boxes is very, satisfactory. Sir Edward Gibbes and Mr. Burdekir. were the money counters, and had a very busy office in the after-, noon. Mrs. S. Eichelbaum was the hdn. secretary, and Mrs. Gil!., president of tl)e Kindergarten Association, assisted during the day. It is believed that considerably over £200 will be the result' of the efforts.
