ADVERTISING NEW ZEALAND

♦ - (From Our Own Cofresppndent.) LONDON, 3rd January. The High Commissioner loses no opportunity to impress on the British public that the prosperity of* New Zealand is steady and assured. In contributing a very readable article to The Standard of Fjmpire Annual/ under the heading, "Wealth and .Beauty of New Zealand," Mr. .Mackenzie deals fir&t wjth the financial position, and points out that the debt is money expended for 'eveloping the country, and expended largely on a commercial basis. Not only is the financial position eound, but the country is carrying on an extensive system of internal development. New Zealand's experience of, preferential trade is that the volume of trade with, the United Kingdom has been enlarged, and in- some articles the Dominion has almost transferred to the* British manufacturer the trade that, was previously done by foreign countries. After defending military training, 'Mr. Mackenzie describes the policy of New Zealand as* the vigorous prosecution ,of land settlement', . combined with reasonable assistance on the part, of -the Government to help settlers and others on lines making for 'steady success. Writing a New ' Year's, letter to ia financial paper,' the High Commissioner says that the position .of the. Dominion is highly satisfactory, and -that.no'country offers a better "security for 'the -investing public. "He thinks t hat the' fruit industry will come strongly to' the 'front, as experiments have demonstrated . tliat there are areas of. lands in New Ze-alarid that aYe excellently adapted .for gTow.irig the choicest fruits. ,The year jus^t. closed may be 'regarded as one»of material v succcss in the Dominion," .with 'bright promises' for the* future.
