AMATEUR ATHLETICS
SATURDAY'S'CARNtVAL. All details in connection with the New Zealand championships on Saturday are now complete. '(A boyjs' 220 yds ahd halfmile walk hay been added to the programme. Notification has been received .from W. A. Woodger and H. E. Ken* (Wellington); and R. E. Mitchell (Otago) of their inability to attend the meeting. Although it is regrettable that these men will not be competing, their places will be filled by others whose performances must place them oh a nearly equal footing. Th the 100 yds event on Batur« day are three men who have been credit* ed with standard time, 10 l*ssee, lor the distance, and others who have consist' ently equalled 10 2-ssec. Cashm&n at "present is walking at the top of hts fonh, and the quality of the hurdlers and' jumpers is probably better than &ny seen out for the past Iwto or three seasons. Keddell at the ptesent time, it is claimed,, has. ho superior in Australasia. Cwii fov^the^Oyds hurdles, it -is doubtful .even if the wonderful American hurdler, Smithson, would be capable of defeating the New Zealander. In the 440 yds hur* dies Keddell^does not. show to 86 mack advantage,- and it is possible that dither M'Kenzie (WaitaTatta), tjte, present Wei- ! lington provincial champiah, or Cook, of i Canterbury, may win.
