Montagu WateonArmstrong, a son of Lord Armstrong, the head of the great gun-making firm of 'Armstrong, Whitworth, and Co., in the article published in a Newcastle paper, says in defence of syndicalism : "We have gradually arrived at a statb of society In which there is no monarchy and no peerage, but only government by the fattest. What excuse is there for the coal companies paying 40 per cent, dividends or the ElsWiek Yards paying dividends riinnlng into double figures?" [In the article mentioned, Mr. Wat-son-Armstrong avowed himself a.syndicalist if Labour is nnable to gain its ends by political means.
