A special branch of the Internal Af■faira Department to deal with local government matters is to be established. Mr. Q. P. Newton, Chief Clerk of the Department, will take charge of the branch with the designation of Assistattt-Under-Secretary, and he will be succeeded in his present position by Mr. P. J. Kelleher, flow clerk in charge of tbe Government Advertising Branch. Mr. A, R. Kennedy, accountant in the Department of i Internal Affairs, will take over Mr. Kelleher'* present duties, combining them with those which he now dischargee. The Advertising Branch, which is at present located in the Public Trust Buildings, is being moved to the Government Buildings, in order to be more immediately under \the supervision of the Under-Secretary, Mr. James Hislop. The Public Service Classification and Superannuation Board's offices are being moved to the Public Trust Building, taking the rooms vacated by the Advertising Branch. Complaints have been made from time to time about the condition of the water in the Te Aro Baths, and the City Council took cognisance of the matter by deciding last evening that certain practices should be stopped. Notices are to be erected forbidding expectoration in or about the baths. Marshall, president of the Katori Eifle Club, as chairman of the New Zealand Rifle Club's Executive, has received from Mr. C, A. Whitney, of the Colonial Ammunition Company, Ltd., Auckland, a valuable trophy to ,be awarded to the Riile Club man making the highest score in the "C.A.C." Cup match, at the next Trentham meeting. This event is the long range Teams' Match. The trophy consists of a .303 Winchester sporting rifle, and 260 rounds of "C.A.C." soft-no3e cartridges.
