BANKNOTES AT A DISCOUNT

Two men carrying handbags accosted a resident of Mona Vale, bwenby miles north of Sydney, and one hurriedly ' exbracted a Bank of New Soubh Wales onepound note from a bag, and earnestly requested change. The man was willing to accepb eighteen or sixteen shillings, but bhe offer was declined. Ib was evident that the bag was chock-full of notes. It is believed that the incident may have some bearing on the robbery of the Surry Hills branch of the Bank of New South Wales in December, when £2000 was abstracted from the strong-roem.
