APT EXHIBITION

Mrs. Fletchei' Johnston has got together a •very fine collection^ of water colours, which are being exhibited at W. H. Turnbull and Co.'s gallery, 27, Panama-street. Tho pictures include somo notable examples pf tho miniaturelike work of _ Lexdom L. Pooock, two being especially notubio, namely, "Dangerous Documents" and "The Garden Party." These would probably bo described as gallery pictures, and they certainly would be "very popular in ix publio - collection. "The Mill Stream," by the same artist, might attract less publio attention perhaps, _ but it is a picture'for 'Which many discerning , people will thank the artist. Achillo Buzzi'a work has been made familiar to Wellington lecture lovers through Mrs. Fletch&r Johnston's good offices. • Tho examples here exhibited, "The Odalisque," "Tho Favourite," and "A Visit: Venice," aro eminently characteristic of tho painter in his fondness foi» the faithful render* ing of detail. "The Roast Beef of Old England," by W. S. Stacey, is a picture that will make many friends. It ia a fifto work, technically sp«aking, *ncl lias all tho essentials of a popular picture.
