THE NEW THEATRE.
The Nordisk, drama, "The Great Circub Catastrophe," is the leading attraction of the new programme to-day at the New Theatre continuous pictures. The hero is Count Yon Ross, who, through standing bond for a friend, becomes bankrupt. He takes temporary rooms in an hot-el, where he meets M. Wingl, a circus manager, and Mdlle. Dore, an equestrienne. The latter and the Count become mutually attracted, and Mies Evelyn, a circus ballet dancer, also falls in love with the Count. A terrific fire breaks out in the hotel, and Mies Evelyn gives her place in the lift to Mdlle. Dore, her rival. Miss Evelyn and the Count undergo an exciting ordeal in escaping from the flames. The former falls, and is caught in a sheet spread in the street below. The Count, that evening, has promised to appear in a dangerous feat of horsemanship at Mdlle. Dore'a benefit performance. ' He imbibes too freely, and loses control of his horse after it hae been raised aloft. Horse and man come crashing to the ground. The rider is seriously injured, but is nursed back to health and* strength by Miss Evelyn, and yhen the etory ends there is «very prospect of a happy union. Special mention is also duo to "Alkali Ike Stung" (S. and A. drama), 1 and "Why Jim Reformed" (behg drama). "The Great Circus Catastrophe" and supporting bill will be repeated this ©vening. \ PEOPLED PICTURE PALACE. Patrons of the People's Picture Palace are promised a specially attractive programme to-day. "Nellie, i the Lion Tamer" heads the bill. It is a story of circUs life, with realistic effects, "Detective's Strategy" is another fine drama, ahd "Fraud at the Hope Mine" is a Kalem film descriptive of the digging days. Other topical, scenic, and comic items are ihcluded in the series.
