"There is a good demand for land all through the Auckland district," said the Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey) to a Post representative. He added that about 4000 acres of the Bickerstaft'e Estate, about 80 miles from Auckland, formerly administered by the Department ot Agriculture, had been handed over to the Lands Department. That land had not hitherto been taken up' awing to its having been too heavily "loaded" for imjiiovemenls, but be thought that with a reasonable valuation it would be readily disposed of. Ballot papers have been sent out by the Wellington District Libour Council in connection w ith the selection of candidates for the appioaehing municipal and other local body elections. I' nil "tickets" are to be run for the City Council, Harbour Hoard, and Hospital Board. For the City Council twentyone candidates have been nominated, and the required number of fifteen will be attained by a ballot on the preferential system.
