CLAIM AGAINST HUTT COUNTY. Decision was given by the Compensa, tion Court this morning in the case in which James Walker, of Plimmerton, claimed £2115 for land taken and damage alleged to have been caused by the Hutt County Council in the course of road formation work near Pahautanui. On account of all items in the claim, save that hereafter mentioned, tho Court awarded the sum of £950. H further awarded, by way of interest on part of the sums entering into the amount, the sum of £63 15s. The Court further awarded a sum ol £20 in respect of two approaches to the claimant's land ; but if the council should form these approaches this sum should not be paid. The amount fixed for compensation, the Court added, was fixed on the assumption that the claimant was to ha-^o the license of the County Council to carry a permanent water-race across the road should he elect to bring the water across in this way, the water to be carried across in pipes at claimant's own cost. The fees payable by each party to its own assessor were fixed at £42. In order that claimant might decide whether he would accept the right to carry water across the road, the Court was adjourned until Tuesday, Ist April. His Honour Mr. Justice Chapman was president of the Court, and the assessors were Messrs. W. M. Hannay and Richards. Mr. Edward Stafford appeared for the claimant and Mr. A. de B. Brandon, sen., for {he respondent.
