STATE BRICKWORKS.

NEW SOUTH WALES VENTURE. OFFICIAL OPENING. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 24th April. Mr. A. Griffith, Minister for Works, officially started, th© Government brickworks at Homebush Bay to-day. H© said the Government's policy was to enable people to obtain those things necessary for their welfare at reasonable rates. If the price of bricks in Sydney was not brought down within reasonable proportions then the Government would go further than making bricks for its own use — it would undertake to supply the general public at a reasonable price. The Government, added the Minister, had necessary respect for private enterprise, but when private entei'priee ' became public spoliation then it was time for the Government to take action in the interests of the people who were despoiled. Preparations were being made largely to extend the plant, so as to produce all the bricks required for Government works. j The superintendent of the works stated that they would be able to supply bricks at £1 per 1000.
