KARORI RIFLE CLUB.
PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The annual dinner and prize-distribu-tion of the Karori Rifle Club was held last evening. President H. Marshall occupied the chair, the gueets being Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., Captain Burton Mabin, Captain Mcc, Lieutenants Wilkinson and Kenny, and Mr. J. Milk. The following prizes were presented : Pearce Challenge Shield, champion gold medal, and club trophy — President H. Marshall 1, Deputy-President Halliday 2, Rifleman Tarr 3. Handicap aggregate—Rifleman Street 1, Rifleman Fellows 2. Kolapore aggregate-rDeputy-President Halliday (who holds the Johnston Cup for one year). Long-range aggregate— President H. Marshall. Firet series matches— Rifleman F. Hay 1, President H. Marshall 2, Rifleman Judd 3, Rifleman H. Richardson 4, Rifleman Caldwell 5, Rifleman A. France 6. Second series matches — Deputy-President Halliday 1, President H. Marshall 2, Rifleman J. Burns 3, Rifleman Street 4, Rifleman H. Bulford 5, Rifleman J. Butler 6. Service (series —President H. Marshall 1, Rifleman J. Burne 2. Owen Daly trophies— Scratch men : Deputy-President Halliday ; handicap men: Rifleman Street. Special match at 1000yds— Scratch men: Rifleman W. Harris; handicap men: Rifleman H. 0. Browne. Teams mateh — Riflemen Rabe (captain), Tarr, Maiaey, Tunney, and Kemu. Saturday prize* — Riflemen Standidge, Judd, Fellows, Hay, Deputy-President Halliday, President Marshall, Cafisels, Burns, and Grimstone. President Marshall donated two of his trophies to two riflemen as special [ prizes. Rifleman W. Harris, who, after I twenty-eight years' continuous service in the Defence Forces, achieved the remarkable feat of making the possible at 1000 yds at Trentham during the season,/ received one of these trophies, and Rifleman H. 0. Browne was awarded one as the rifleman showing the most improvement in his shooting during the year. The toasts of "The King," "Dominion Rifle Association, " Club Champion," "Donors of Prizes," "Club Patron" (Mr. W. H. Field), "The Bisley Team," "Tlse Trench and Range Officers," and "The Press" were duly honoured during the course of the evening. When proposing the /toast of " The Club Patron," Mr. H. Marshall mentioned how very valuable the assistance of Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., had been to all rifle clube, and the Karori Club in particular. Not only had he assisted them by presenting valuable prizes for competition, but at all times, both in and out of the Ho-use, had he advocated this at one time very neglected branch of tho Defence Force. Mr. Field presented a cheque to President Marshall from his friends and members of the Karori Rifle Club, subecribed for the purpo&e of sending him to Bisley* In doing so, he stated that probably no one in the Dominion had put in more time and harder work in the cauo-a of rifle shooting than President Marshall, and his excellent shooting of late showed him to be ,one of -our best marksmen. He would carry with him the best wishes of his many friends and fellow club-men, and all wished him the best of luck and a good time. Enjoyable items were rendered between the speeches by Captains Mabin and Mcc, Lieutenants Wilkinson and Kenny, and Riflemen Halliday, Burns, M'Laren, and Wells.
