FBI IELT.GKAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POET.} OTAKI, This Day. At a special meet-ing , o£ the Horowhenua County Council ' on Saturday, a letter .was; read from iho District Engineer relative to the Taungata bridge, denying that the Minister had withdrawn his letter of 23rd July, and* regretting that further payment on account of subsidy could not be paid until the bridge>-had been rendered safe for public traffic. It was decided that a deputation wait ,on the Minister for Public Works in regard to the matter. The following ratss/ were struck : — Tokomaru, general 2-'3d in the £1, separate l-15d ; Wirokino, Jd and l-15d ; Ofaki, fd and l-15d; Te Horo, Id and l-13d. The drought here appears to havebroken, for on Saturday morning and Sunday welcome rain fell, which will certainly be very beneficial. On Friday night, at Te Horo, Mr. A. M'Cheyne Murray, who is leaving the district to go further north, was entertained by a large number of friends. The dog-tax collection in connection with the Horowhen,ua County Council for the year 1910-11 amounted t0 % £97 3s Id, while £33 13s 2d was paid out for birds' eggs.
