PUBLIC SCHOOLS RUGBY UNION.
Mr. A. Bary presided at the annual meeting of the Wellington Schodls Rugby Union. The election of officers resulted as /ollows : — President, Mr. Robert Darroch, hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. H. Ward (re-elected) ; Selection Committee, Messrs. Arcus, Ohlson, and Baskiville. A deputation from the Wellington Rugby Union waited on the meeting, making strong representations that tho 'Marist Brothers' School might be admitted to the privileges of the union. It was pointed out that if the Markt boys could not play Rugby they would play "soccer," and this would mean a distinct loss of some 300 boys from the Rugby ranks. Several members strongly backed up the request, but a motion that the Marist Brothers' School be admitted was defeated by seven votes to five. * It was decided that every senior school in the competition must pay an •entrance fee of ten shillings. The committee resolved to begin matches on Friday, sth May.
