MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M., presided at the .Magistrate's Court to-day. For insobriety, three first offenders were leniently dealt with. Rose Fraser, admitted being drunk, but denied that she was an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support. She was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and convicted and ordered to remain in the Salvation ■ Araiy Home for a period of six monthsi on the second charge. Three charges were preferred against Richard Driscoll — (1) drunkenness, (2) damaging glasses and decanter, valued at 7s 6d, the property of Sarah Bird, and (3) refusing to> leave the Foresters' Arms Hotel when called upon to do" so by a servant of the licensee. He was convicted and discharged on the first charge, and fined 40s and ordered to pay the cost of damage on the second charge, in default to undergo 14 days' imprisonment. A fine of 2Cte, with the option of seven days' detention, was imposed on the third charge. For intoxication, Patrick Daly was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, and for a breach of a prohibition order he was convicted and discharged. Harry Tamm and Bartholomew Mahoney were jointly charged with using threatening behaviour in. Taranaki-street. Tamm was fined £3, with the option of 14 days' detention, and Mahoney waa mulcted in a penalty of 20s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. George Conner admitted having damaged a door and a window, valued at 20s, the property of Ell«n Langvad. Ho was fined 40s and ordered to pay cost of damage, also to pay two witnesses' expenses, Bs. The option, was 14 days' detention. A plea of guilty was entered by Wm. Spindle, alias Spindler, lo a charge of using threatening behaviour, but he denied any knowledge of using obscene language. A fine of 40s, with the option of seven days' detention, was imposed for the first offence. On the second charge ho was fined £3, with two witnesses' expenses, Bs. The alternative was 21 days' imprisonment. Edward Jackson, Michael James Foggerty, Michael Keating, and two first offenders appeared before Mr. Thomas Bland at the Mount Cook Police Court this, morning, all being convicted and discharged. Another first offender, who failed to appear, was mulcted in a penalty of 10b, with an option of forty-eight hours in gaol. At a sitting of the Lower Hutt Police Court this morning, a first offender, on a charge of drunkenness, was convicted and discharged.
