NOTES ON THE CHIEF EVENTS.

(bT TSCEQBiPH — StEOl.ili TO THE POST.] FEILDING, 17th April. Interest chiefly centred in the Cup, from which Rauparaha and The Rover were withdrawn "(the latter owing to an attack of influenza). A good start was promptly effected, John (the favourite) and Goodwin Park leading away, with Kauroa third. Passing the stand John (on the rails), Goodwin Park, and Mallet were on terms in the lead, with Kauroa fourth and Lady Menschikoff fifth. Rounding the back Mallet dropped out of- the running, John and Goodwin Park still leading. When heads were turned for home , Goodwin Park was leading from John and Kauroa, with Lady Menschikoff fourth. Kauroa came fast 1 on' the outside in the straight, and, catching the leaders, looked like winning, but had to succumb to Lady Menschikoff, who, finishing fast, won by a clear length. Kauroa beat Goodwin Park by half a length for second place, with John fourth. Mallet fifth, and Te Puia eixtl. ' Teotane finished last! There was considerable delay at the start of the Mangaone Stakes, and when a despatch was effected Ascalon and Lady Frances wer-e badly left, and then set out in hopeless pursuit. Equitas got all the best of tfio start, and led throughout, winning comfortably by a length and a-half from Mon Ami, who beat Full Rate by a neck for second place, with Tigerin© close up fourth, Clemora' fifth, and then Meroze and True Shot, with Ascalon last. In the Open Hurdles Marton was ridden with bad judgment, and should have won comfortably.
